Summer Update

Long time no post! Things have been crazy busy for me this summer. Sorry to be so absent from my little bloglet. Hope you've been enjoying the countdown posts, though. :)

Since I have a day to actually sit down and do a little writing, I can finally share what's been going on over the last couple months:

Graduation
I did it. :D  And I graduated Summa Cum Laude - woohoo! I now have a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology & Archaeology. Feels so awesome to say that!

Right after graduation I got accepted into a summer internship at a public archaeology organization, so I've been doing a lot of work for that. It's been awesome - I'm getting a lot of good feedback on my work, which always feels great. :)

My Best Friend's Wedding
In May I went to South Carolina to see my very best friend Mari get married! We've been friends since preschool, kept in touch across 3 states, studied abroad together in Italy... needless to say, she's truly my bestie. :) I've never been to SC before but it was so beautiful, and the wedding itself was just about as perfect as a wedding could possibly be - outdoors, by the water, beautiful weather, beautiful bride! I'm so happy I could be there for it!

Fabio!
This same best friend is, by the way, pretty darn awesome - she just graduated from culinary school and is now a chef! During culinary school she got a chance to meet Fabio Viviani from Season 5 of Top Chef, who we were both big fans of. (Anyone who watched that season will mostly likely agree with Fabio and us that it is indeed Top Chef, not Top Scallop. :D)

When Mari met him, she brought him an apron to sign, and then she sent it to me!!! How very thoughtful, and oh how I love it!!

Field School
I'll be leaving in a week to go to archaeology field school in Virginia for 4 weeks. Usually you don't get a chance to do much hands-on work during college for archaeology, so field school lets you get your hands dirty (really, really dirty) and actually learn how to do what you've been taught in classes. I'm excited for it!!

I probably won't update this blog again till I get back at the end of July, because I don't think anything CP-related will happen while I'm away. I'll probably start another blog just for field school for my family and friends to follow along with what I'm doing - I'd be happy to share a link if anyone's interested, just leave me a comment. :)

Here's a look at all my field school gear:

CP Shopping
I've been so busy preparing for field school I haven't really gotten a chance to do serious shopping for the CP for clothes and bedding and etc., but last weekend I finally made some progress. I found this bedding ensemble at Target (and decided to Photoshop it all together to show exactly how my bed will look, including Pook-a-Looz, lol):

I have a lamp with a little Mickey-head-shape at the end of the pull chain that I'm going to spray paint to match one of the colors in the bedspread. Then I think my bedroom set will be complete. :D

I went clothes shopping too and I found quite a few things - some nice shirts, a pair of black pants (pants are so hard to shop for!), and a really comfy pair of black flats. I may not have the most stylish shoes in my training groups, but I will have no blisters or achy arches! I didn't want any shoe problems distracting me from training, so these shoes are perfect! :)

I still need to get some more outfits, obviously, but at least I made a little progress. I've started a little CP corner in my closet... now the CP is starting to feel really close, and it's getting really exciting!!! :)

  1. Where are you going to Field School? Jamestowne?

  2. I would have loved to do Jamestown - I went there on family vacation a long time ago and they had a dig going on, and that's what got me interested in archaeology in the first place. :) It would have been an awesome full-circle type experience. But it's really expensive for an out-of-state student, so I couldn't do it financially. I'll be going to Montpelier instead and I'm really excited for it! :)
