February Wrap-Up

"I think having land and not ruining it
is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want to own."

- Andy Warhol

I didn't blog much in February (at all), but here's a little wrap-up of the past month. I'm going to try to be better about blogging in March.

Work is going great! I love my job and I love my fellow interns. I'm starting to put my own spin on the conservation messages I'm delivering to Guests. There are certain messages we have to get across, but we can choose how and where we say them. For example, sometimes at the Asia KDC I talk about habitat destruction, sometimes I talk about animal adaptations, sometimes I talk about vocalization studies being done at Animal Kingdom... It's great to have that kind of freedom because you can really feel out your audience and what they would be interested in learning about, and therefore you can give them a conservation message they really care about.

I've been spending a lot of time in the parks, which is something I wished I had done more on my CP. I really feel like I'm making the most of my time on this internship! I've spent evenings at the Magic Kingdom, hung out at Animal Kingdom after work, gone to Cast events, toured Orlando... It's been fun and time is going really fast. I'm trying to slow down and enjoy the internship!

And, since this is an internship and I do have a definite end date, I've been seriously searching out options for when my internship is over. I really want to stay with Disney, but I had to work hard to get this internship so I know it's going to take a lot of work to get another job. I'm prepared for that, and I'm starting the work early!

I'm on week 4 of my sign language class. I love it, but it's a lot to learn really fast! I know the alphabet, numbers, LOTS of vocab, and we're starting to put together sentences. We have a quiz this week so I guess that will tell me how good I'm doing...

I unfortunately decided not to audition for the S.T.A.G.E. production. On the day of the audition, I still had no voice, so I knew I wasn't going to be able to do my best. I've also been basically exhausted after working 9 hour days 5 days a week, and I wanted to look forward to rehearsals and be able to give 100% - not struggle through them because I'm so tired. I'm finally starting to adjust to all the walking we do at work, and I'm not so tired when I come home anymore, so if S.T.A.G.E. puts on another show while I'm on my internship I'm planning on auditioning for that one instead.

That's about all that's going on in the life of me. But I want to finish by giving a great big CONGRATULATIONS to my fiance Brian for passing his thesis defense! He'll soon officially be a Historian and I couldn't be prouder!! :)
