To Wonderland and Back

This is a day late - apologies for that. But Brian and I did go see the new "Alice in Wonderland" movie and we both LOVED it!!!

We didn't see it in 3D, but we didn't feel like we missed anything. It was still visually amazing. Brian has never read the books, and the movie did seem to pull very heavily from them, so I wasn't sure he would be all that into the movie... but he liked it just as much as I did!

Alice was a little sullen for my taste at first, but her personality grew on me as the movie went on. The White Queen was just too precious. Helena Bonham Carter was, of course, amazing as the Red Queen. I was pleasantly surprised with Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter - I thought he was just the right amount of mad!

And I did detect a subtle hint of "something there" (to borrow from "Beauty and the Beast") between Alice and the Mad Hatter, but it was very understated. I think if they had made it into anything more it would have been very out of place. It was just perfect as it was. (And who knows, maybe they didn't mean for me to detect anything at all between Alice and Hatter! Maybe I was just on high alert for it from following "When Curiosity Met Insanity." But whether they intended it or not, I liked it!)

I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'll put some specific comments in white below... just highlight if you want to read! :)

~ The March Hare cracked me up, which I did not expect at all!
"...... Spoon!!" :D
~ When the Mad Hatter made Alice a tiny dress to wear when she was in the teapot, the entire theater said "awwwwww!" Me included!
~ I was really disappointed in Alice's words to the spinster aunt! "There is no prince, you need to have these delusions checked out." ... !!! This coming from ALICE, who just saved an entire world reachable only by rabbit hole and/or looking-glass?!? You would think of all people she would believe in impossible things... possibly even as many as six before breakfast...
~ ohhh how I want the coat Alice wears in the final scene on the ship.....
~ Down with the bloody Red Queen!

  1. I totally detected something between Alice and the Mad Hatter especially at the end! I did get to see it in 3D and it was amazing! You noticed it but then you didn't but everything was so lifelike. I would suggest if you go see it again to see it in 3D because I felt it was well worth the extra money! Also, all of your blacked out comments I felt were spot on!

  3. Laura - I'm glad it wasn't just me! :) I think I am going to see it a second time and it will be in 3D, so it will be neat to see the difference.

Rob - Yes, imax it is!
