I believe it is an unwritten rule of blogging that one of your first posts has to be the "About Me" post. So, since I am a shameless rule-follower, here is mine.
I'm Jillian, I'm 23, and I'm an Anthropology/Archaeology major. Weird for the CP, right? Maybe. Maybe not. ;) The CP specifically states that it's open to all majors. But of course it does make more sense for someone with a Hospitality major or an Engineering major or an Art or Theater major or something like that to do the CP as an internship to enhance their resume, or as a start to a Disney career. However, I do believe that anthropologists can be a useful addition to the Disney Company too. We study people, and Disney is all about people. :) Archaeology is more of a stretch. But I'm interested in public archaeology, which is all about educating and sharing information with the public about what archaeology is, where archaeological sites are (they're not just in Egypt and South America!), and how they can be protected. And there seems to be quite a few education-related positions in the Disney Company. So we'll see! I'm confident that I can find my niche in the Disney Company. Hopefully they agree. :)
I'm a nerd. Totally and completely. I love to read, I love to write. I'm into sketching, painting, photography, scrapbooking, and cross-stitching. I can spend hours making artsy things with Photoshop. I love big band music and Turner Classic Movies. I plan out my costumes for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party a year in advance. And I'm totally happy being my nerdy self. :D
I'll be doing the CP with my boyfriend of almost 6 years, Brian. He got accepted into Attractions too! :) He is the most wonderful person I've ever met and I'm so excited to be doing this with him. We actually met over our love of Disney and we're hoping that the CP will be the start of long-term Disney careers for both of us.
I applied to the CP as soon as the applications opened up in January. The roles I selected were Attractions, Merchandise, and Character Performer. Attractions because it's something I've always wanted to do... you know, like when you're on the Jungle Cruise or the Great Movie Ride and you're watching the awesome Cast Member bring the ride to life for you and you just get this overwhelming feeling of, "I want to do that one day!" Merchandise because I've had a few jobs in merchandise in the past and I knew I'd be capable. Character Performer because over the years I've done dance, baton twirling, cheerleading, winterguard, and a little theater, and although I've never been a "star" and know I won't ever be, I just love being on stage and performing for people. If I could be a parade performer at Disney, I think I would spontaneously combust from the absolute happiness I would get from it.
That being said, I don't think I'll be able to attend the Character Performer audition this year. It's in the middle of the week and skipping classes isn't really an option for me. I had heard that auditions were usually in the middle of the week, so I had kind of assumed I wasn't going to be able to go and didn't get my heart set on it. That's a dream that I'll just have to put on hold for a while and hope that one day I get a chance to bring it to life. :)
Meanwhile, I'll be doing Attractions and absolutely loving it! I'm excited for the opportunity to "perform" for people in that role too. I requested any high-spiel role (which would involve lots of talking and making speeches) where I could really help bring an attraction to life for guests, and I specifically mentioned Kilimanjaro Safaris. I would love driving those trucks around, teaching guests about the animals we pass and helping to save Little Red every time he gets in trouble... :) But I know requests are just that and are not guaranteed by any means, so I'm totally open to any attraction that comes my way.
Is that enough? Are you sick of hearing about me yet? lol.. I'll wrap it up by saying that I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about the CP - just leave me a comment. Looking forward to sharing this whole new world as a Disney Cast Member with you, readers. :)
Congratulations on being accepted...I am waiting to see whether I get in or not. I was accepted for the the spring but at the lasr minute I was not able to attend.
